Are you sure that: /home/r96/Iris/m5-stable-733318abb7b1/disks/linux- bigswap2.img exists and you have permission to write to it? I don't think you do. Additionally, you can continue to use the copy-on-write layer for the swap disk, it doesn't need to be writable to do what you're trying to do.
