I didn't mean that you should use checkpoints... what I meant was that
we have the hooks I described in place to allow you to take a
checkpoint after linux boots, so one way to enable tracing would be to
hack on those hooks inside m5 to force them to turn tracing on instead
of taking a checkpoint.

However, an even easier approach (if it works for you) would be to
boot with tracing disabled, take a checkpoint right before your
benchmark runs, stop the simulation, then restart m5 from the
checkpoint with tracing enabled.
