I think the best way to start understanding M5 is by using it.
What you did now is ran the "hello world" with those config-scripts.
Try running your own "micro-benchmarks" by modifying the config-script 
se.py for example.

I suppose you compiled ALPHA_SE and ALPHA_FS? Then you'll need to 
compile your binaries for ALPHA as well. You can do this with a 
cross-compiler.
After you did that you can either run it by giving extra command-line 
arguments or by adjusting the python config-script. Take a look how the 
script makes a LiveProcess object from an executable binary and try 
doing it for your own binary.
