Is there actually an IETF document that says we are supposed to do
this? It's not that I strongly object to doing it, but it is
redundant with a statement that will be a few lines above the abstract
in the finished RFC, so I am wondering if this is something we are
actually required to do.
Thanks,
Margaret

OK, We will add a sentence like “This document obsoletes RFC 4742.”

I guess at some point someone who deals with standards track docs
wanted it mentioned in the abstract as well. Whatever you and the
experts all decide is fine with me.
