Hi everyone, I want to make you aware that an extra Call for Candidates <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Coordinating_Committee/Election/2024_Special_Election> for the U4C committee <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Coordinating_Committee> is open until Friday July 19th (until midnight 'anywhere on earth'). This committee concerns itself with oversight on the highest levels for the Universal Code of Conduct <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Universal_Code_of_Conduct>; according to their page on Meta: *"Its purpose is to serve as final recourse in the case of systemic failures by local groups to enforce the UCoC."*
The special election is being held because last time there were not enough members elected to fill all the seats. In fact, the pool that did make it was quite poor in terms of representation: as far as I can tell there was one women elected (Civvì from it.wp) and the regional seats for North America (USA and Canada), Latin America and Caribbean, Central and East Europe (CEE), Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia *are all still open*, besides 4 seats for the community at large = a total of 9 vacant seats (out of a total of 16 available.). One thing to keep in mind when applying is that U4C charter does not allow for more than two members from the same community on the committee, and two of the members elected in the previous round are already from en.wp - the 'home wiki' is self-identified when applying for candidacy though, so if you work on multiple (language) projects, please take that into consideration. A second thing to be aware of is that candidates have to *receive 60% or higher *of votes in their support (calculations based on the number of support + oppose per candidate - neutral votes do not count). So even if you don't feel like applying, please mark your agendas for the *voting period of July 27 - August 10*, to support allies, friends and the other candidates you trust with this responsibility. That's it! Want to know more, please have a look at the Call for Candidates on Meta <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Coordinating_Committee/Election/2024_Special_Election> to check out the criteria for candidates (sadly, a limited number of page translations is available), and *apply to become a candidate on this page <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct/Coordinating_Committee/Election/2024_Special_Election/Candidates>! * Ciell
