How much ram? Service pack? OS? Anti virus/spyware software running? Any
extra processing (compression eq etc)?

I've found with the mySQL database even a server with Pentium III dual
833 Xeon's running Windoze 2000 will spike 85% and you can get a slight
garble at crossfades, due to the database getting hit at the same time.

Im eventually moving mine off to an XP box 2gigs ram 2.8ghz proc. Has
less overhead even with the Mysql dbases.

I've tried an older laptop to stream... worked... but wasn?t as
reliable.

Subject: [General-discussion] i think my soundcard is dieing....

its happening so randomly i cant place it to a pattern of other things
taking place.
Its not from processes running or anything happening with hte laptop

This laptop just sits here pushing out a stream with SAM running on it.
this laptop is used for Absolutely NOTHING else.

Why do i think my sound card is dieing?
well its really a question. I dont know what the symptoms would be.

While i am sitting here listening to the laptop, every so randomly i
hear a
"BURP" or " glitch or distortion in the audio.
Its definatly NOT the audio it self because its happening on everything
that
is playing.

As far as i can tell ( and i have to look it up )
This machine is an ACER ASPIRE 3620 LAPTOP
so im pretty sure the Soundcard is built directly into the machine and i
can
NOT remove it.

However i am sure i can simply add one on externally .

However doing this often leads to problems with people computers running
SAM
and we dont know what cards run what problems until AFTER its purchased
and
tried.

If ti fails,.... well i just went out and bought a card that i cant use
for
anything.

CAn anyone help with this?

I dont think its being heard from the listener end but i cant say for
sure
