I use MySQL (and you've raised a helpful point about using the MySQL 
tools to automate backup).

I'm wondering if, in addition to MySQL tools, the SAM menu command to 
backup the database (which I believe is not database dependent) can be 
executed from a PAL script.

Is that, version and encoder independent?

I wasn't aware of the change so I guess I will have to experiment and see 
how that works.
