Dear Nadim I was very happy to see that Linux has a good base among Arabic users. I have been on arabeyes.org site before but now I see many other related active sites. Thank you for your email.
In addition to presenting another option or flavor, our main goal in designing the mutamathil typefaces was to make Arabic and related scripts systems and software less dependent on complex and expensive solutions and to promote Arabetic (Arabic an its derivative scripts) typography. OpenOffice, GPL or other open access forums were definatly on our mind. At this point we are not yet ready to go this road with our typefaces. We would like to concentrate a bit more on readability and other typographical issues for a while. But in the near future we will probably be in a better position to go the open licensing way. We have also planned to make our final commercial fonts available for free and we hope to be able to keep our plan. Thanks again.
