I think that the problem is in sarge, I had this problem. I tried to
install all arabic related fonts (search "arabic" in the debian
repository). the problem was corrected in all applications but it
remained in firefox (I guess in mozilla also). It was solved when I
updated to etch. you said you haven't any problem with open office. so
it's the old version of mozilla. try to update just mozilla if you don't
want to update to testing or unstable.
