The advantage of shift+S was that it remained S even in Arabic, so it could be used for adding a new character to the keyboard. For example, I use it for a dotted Kaf for old Malay (Jawi). It's nice to have at least one unassigned key on the Arabic keyboard. But making the Linux Arabic keyboard exactly the same as the MS keyboard seems like a good idea. Anyone who doesn't like a particular keyboard can always edit the keyboard file to suit his own preferences.

Salam all,

Does anyone have anything agains moving the Arabic_kasratan from Shift+V to Shift+S in xkb to match that used in MS environment? and move Arabic_kasra from Shift+C to Shift+A and the curly braces ({}) from shift+[ and shift+] to shift+C and shift+V?
