I screwed up. I was working on filtering the mailbox for the site so that I could properly redirect different mailing lists to the archives (if users begin using the biz list again) and I deleted the site's mail spool file!
To make matters worse, I had a backup but accidently deleted that too. Don't ask.. This is a problem because I can't let hypermail update the archives without the original spool file. If I do the current archive will be lost and we will restart from the first message in the new spool file. That means we will lose over a year's worth of mail. Geez.. Now, I have three options here. First, I can just go ahead and start the archiver again, and the archive will reset to the last few messages plus new messages. The second option is to restore the achive from someone on the list that has the good sense to not delete any messages since they joined. The final option is to have the hosting company pull the file from tape backup for $40. What is everyone's thoughts? Anyone have the list archived? Any packrats here? Hmm, I guess I could write a tool to pull the messages back out of the archive, but I don't look forward to writing that.
