There's another utility called SVGATextMode, that unlike the boot parameter, allows you to switch modes on the fly. I used to have this set up, but it's been a long time, and it might not even compile anymore. Of course, it uses an X-like configuration file using modelines, and it is possible to burn your monitor with that utility. If you just want it to display more lines/page, you can use setfont <fontname> to change how the display is organized. Fonts and the setfont utility are part of the standard "kbd" package, and you can see what's available in the /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts -- i dont believe you need to give the file extensions (ie.
