Jeral, Shannon, Dustin.....

Finally got somewhere. Following you advice, I did the following:

1. Did a make revert of my source install (Thanks Dustin:-). I now understand
that this is different than RPM. I thought that either way got you
there...easy
2. Uninstalled samba-common and samba-client, the only two packages that were
installed.
3. Downloaded samba 2.0.10-2 - all 4 packages and installed (bummer, my
source version was 2.2.1a)
4. /etc/services added "swat 901/tcp"
5 found xinetd.conf in the /etc directory
6. did /etc/init.d/xinetd restart
7. tried some http stuff with not a lot of success....fortunately, a new menu
item appeared : samba config. This called Netscape and obiously figured out
my IP address cause I sure didn't : 127.0.0.1:901
8. THANKS and THANKS. Sweet smell of victory.
9. Before continuing, I'd like your advice....a lot of the things I do I
don't fully understand yet but that will come.

Now, I have a LinkSys router/modem/wireless device that works as a DHCP
server. I have two more computers attached (win boxes) and a Nec SuperScript
1800 laser (to the linux computer).
How do I proceed to share files on hda1 (my windows disk on the linux box)
and let others print to the nec.

Bart

I am continuing my quest to achieve a functionality close to Windows but
without the crashes and reboots !!!
