Yeow, that's small. Very cool project though. I love to squeeze more use out of old and cheap hardware. I strongly recommend Debian in your case. You can install it from floppies (~14) and it only installs the minimum needed to work. I think the base install of Debian takes up about 80MB of disk space. As Dustin said in another reply, this would make a great command line only machine, which is ideal for really learning the basics of Linux. And as John B. has pointed out in the past, you can do an amazine number of things from the console.
Go here: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/Debian2.2r3/main/disks-i386/current/images-1.44/ and download all the *.bin files. Download this app: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/tools/rawrite2.zip Use this tool to create floppy disks from the *.bin image files. Be sure to lable em as you make em. Also read: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/install/. You may want to download and print: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/install.en.txt. Try the install yourself, it's not too bad provided the install disk boots. I've had problems getting PCMCIA cards to be recognized, but I could still use Linux on that laptop. If you can't get Debian to install on your laptop, bring it and your Debian floppies to the BRLUG Newbie Hour. Or, if you did get it installed, bring it anyway and show it off! :) Good Luck!
