Thanks to everybody who participated! I think it was a
successful meeting and I learned a lot. And thanks to
Robert Leche for volunteering to help fill in for
Dustin Puryear, who is stepping down from his duties
as the BRLUG coordinator.

In case you missed it, we talked about lots of aspects
involved in setting up a home network. John Beamon
gave a really good talk on how to install network
cable in your walls without reducing the value of your
home. Thanks John!

One thing we forgot to mention:

/sbin/ifconfig

To find out what it does: "man ifconfig". This command
shows the current configuration of your network
devices. You can also provide arguments to the command
to configure your network device.

And based on the interest shown in network security,
packet sniffing and firewall configuration, John
Beamon, Robert Leche and Ricky Salmon are going to
talk about and demo this kinda stuff at the next
meeting on 12/3/01 (which is a Monday, BTW (: ). They
are planning to set up a small network at the meeting
and show hands on how a hacker sniffs network traffic
and breaks into a machine. I'd like to suggest that we
also have a M$-Windoze box (d00d) on the network to
show its vulnerabilities.

One more thing: thanks to everyone who took the time
to burn CDs of Linux distributions and software and
donate them to the BRLUG library. You are helping in a
big way to help other computer users discover Linux
and what computer technology is really about.

John Hebert

ps: John Beamon, I have your punchdown tool. You left
it at the meeting. Lemme know via
[EMAIL PROTECTED] where we can meet so I can give
it back to you.
