Hi, Dustin,
Would you be interested in giving a talk at the Cajun Clickers general
meeting on August 2 about the wonders and glories of Linux, especially
for new users? If not August, how about September 6? It would be for
about 45 minutes. We can provide a screen, projector, and electrical
connections for a computer for show-and-tell. And, of course, you can
hand out all the information or flyers or BRLUG applications you please.
There's a sudden flurry of interest in Linux in the CC. Some of the
members have never been overly thrilled with MS, but felt like they were
stuck with it, with no viable alternative. The recent news about the
court decision, along with MS's new insecure bloatware OS and office
suite, and their announcements about leasing, licensing, using apps over
the web, etc., are pushing them more toward other options. Some want to
keep using their Windows apps but want more stability and security. And
then, there is a small but vocal group who don't want to hear or think
anything bad about MS or consider any alternative.
There is a large enough group who would like to learn more about Linux
that I think it could be a really good presentation topic. I hope you
can do it, or ask one of the other BRLUG members to.
The CC had a Linux Special Interest Group for a while, but it folded,
and I think most of its active members are now members of the BRLUG.
If somehow it doesn't work out to give a presentation to CC, I hope that
the BRLUG can do one for new users, especially for that group of Windows
users looking for something better. One or more meetings like this in
both clubs would be good.
Thanks,
Sue Smith
