We originally scheduled a special network and system security meeting on a previous weekend, but had to postpone due to scheduling conflicts. In light of the fact that we don't have a topic for the August meeting, why don't we combine the "general questions/install help" with covering basic security countermeasures? All we really need is for a few knowledgeble people to show what kind of security measures they take on their own boxes. It would make a good opportunity for newbies to have their boxes "tweaked" and made more secure, while learning more about the basic configuration changes made. Dustin, is it possible to get a few tables from somewhere at Coates? Or should we just grab a few from work? I believe Shannon offered to bring a 24 port hub. Shannon, does that offer still stand? I can bring some power extension cables and a couple of power strips. I recommend for anyone bringing their own machines to bring a network patch cable and a power strip. I'll also bring an SVGA extension cable for the overhead projector, so that specific configuration demonstrations can be made to everyone. What we need most is for BRLUG members to get involved at the meeting. If you are a newbie, bring your machine and plenty of questions. If you are somewhat experienced with Linux configuration and security trouble-shooting, help by answering questions and sharing your knowledge. Because it will be a hands-on event instead of a demonstration, how about we call this next meeting "Getting Your Hands Dirty"? :) John --- Dustin Puryear <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: <em>> Well, John H. is supposed to be working on a special <em>> hack meeting.
