I think he's dialing into a 3Com total control chassis (AT&T bought
thousands of those things from us last year).  Under normal
circumstaces, MSCHAP is the way those would be setup.  What *I* would do
(what we did with the systems managers from the NOC) would be to attach
a simple windows PC (I know, I know...but all those chassis are tuned
for Windows boxen)  Turn on PPP logging and either send it to me or post
it to the list and I'll decipher the log for you to tell you how to set
Linux.
