The kit only needs the monitor that supports sync on green for initial
setup. As stated in the faq at the official site, you can configure the
kit to use a television instead of a monitor after initial
configuration. So configure it in your comptuer room using your
monitor. Then move it to the living room, grab a cordless trackball and
keyboard, hookup to big screen, and you're in heaven.

>>
>> Requirements for utilizing the kit are a standard North American
>> PlayStation
>> 2 (Models Numbers SCPH 30001, SCPH 30001R, SCPH 35001GT), a 8MB
>> Memory Card
>> (for PS2), and a VESA compatible monitor. Because the kit will run
>> the PS2
>> at a resolution of 1024 x 768 resolution in XGA, most standard TV's
>> will not
>> support the display output from the kit. This creates the requirement
>> for a
>> VESA compatible monitor with green on sync compatibility.
>> The kit will be sold exclusively through Sony's web site,
>> www.us.playstation.com.
