This is all good feedback concerning Red Carpet. I hadn't used Red Carpet much yet, so this is helpful. I've used Debian's apt-get and dselect much more and like it alot.
Translation for newbies: We are discussing apps that can make upgrading software on your computers easier. Roughly speaking, these apps detect the software you have on your computer, then connect over the Internet to a remote server and downloads any upgrades to your installed software. You are then prompted to install the upgrades, unless you specify differently. This operation can even be made automatic and run every night! An analogy would be Microsoft's Windows Update, but without the backdoor NSAkey access. :) John Hebert > -----Original Message----- > From: Douglas Adams [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 10:27 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: RE: Ximian - Was Re: [brluglist] Baldur's Gate > > > Yeah, red carpet is pretty nice, but I prefer Suse's yast2 online > update.
