John, I want to add my thanks for the great job you are doing with the newbie class.
I was able to: Download the diskette version of Linux (tomsrtbt). Create a bootable floppy from DOS. Boot up in Linux. Mount my Windows HD. Copy the Linux version of the disk creation software into the Linux filesystem. Create another floppy from within Linux. Kinda went a little crazy. Created about ten diskettes. Anyone need one?
