There's a bit of a separation here that a lot of people often miss, and
that is that companies are not the government. Government is something
that's inflicted upon us, companies are something that we do business
with. The logical means of expressing your disagreement with the
practices of a company is to not do business with it. When the
government infringes upon personal liberties... well... then things are
more difficult. I really don't see the problem with a company doing
market research. It's the same as long distance companies figuring out
what times people are most likely to make the most phone calls and price
their services accordingly; or an e-commerce web site gathering
demographics on its users and directing resources to target those people
more efficiently.
There was no need to apologize, and this is a bit related to Linux
(aside from the fact that TiVo runs linux :). There are ideas being
bounced around in the US government that could lead to things like Linux
being made illegal. And it's those kind of freedom-stealing actions that
make me worry.

Hi All,
Please don't get the idea that I'm some kinda "nut case." I don't own a
gun, I don't want to blow up buildings or anybody, I'm not anti-social and
I'm NOT paranoid.......I think, LOL!
I just don't like the idea that there ARE folks out there keeping "tabs" on
us. Whither they want to do it for "customer quality" or not, it still is
unwelcomed *spying* and hints of "Big Brotherism."
Sorry, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Linux. I apologize.
Maybe I just need more Paxil or a peanutbutter & jelly sandwich, LOL!
Yes, I would LOVE to learn about encryption, provided the U.S.
Government doesn't outlaw it first.
