The other day I got the wise idea that I wanted to try something a little different in terms of managing e-mail on my 1-box system. So I got to playing around with fetchmail. Previously I was using KMail's internal POP routines to get my mail from various accounts. In any event, I was able to get fetchmail to bring my remote mail an deposit it locally in /path/to/my/mail.
Once I got fetchmail working the way I wanted it to, I began working on a method by which to filter spam. I had been using spamassassin and decided that I wanted to keep on using it. So I started playing with procmail (as you can see I keep getting deeper). Well, to make a long story a little longer, I got this to work. Not only am I now able to filter my mail, I can move those items deemed to be spam to a special mailbox. After this I got to thinking about taking mail from various mailing lists and sending them to their very own mailboxes. No problem here. I have procmail handling the distribution of everything. Mail is coming in and being moved to the appropriate mailbox. So what is the problem? Well, I will get to that. Let me preface my answer by reminding you that I am using KMail as my mail client. Anyhow, when I get new mail, and this mail is sorted and sent to the appropriate mailboxes, when I go into KMail there is no indication that I have new mail in any mailbox other than my inbox. Is there a way to ensure that all of the new mail that is in mailboxes other than inbox initially shows as being new? Any help would be appreciated. BTW: I realize that this can all be done with KMail. I just wanted to see if I could do it the way I have described above. -K ================================================ BRLUG - The Baton Rouge Linux User Group Visit http://www.brlug.net for more information.
