The Cajun Clickers Computer Club now has a Linux SIG
(Special Interest Group). They have generously donated
4 PCs, a hub, Internet connectivity, a couple of
motherboards and some space for a small Linux lab. The
CCCC also has a store room full of donated hardware
that could also be used. The CCCC will be moving to a
new office in July and we will have even more space
for a lab then.
We need help of all kinds and levels of expertise to
get it going. We have started a web page to describe
the project: http://www.clickers.org/sigs/linux/.

Specifically, we need help for the following tasks:

1. Configure networking on the Linux server. There are
currently problems with the DHCP client on it.
2. OR: configure a WebRamp ISDN router to provide
either a public IP address (if its available) or
configure the router to port forward to a private
static IP for the server.
3. Make three 3'+ patch cables.4. Configure SSH on the
Linux server for secure remote connectivity.
5. Fix the 3 other boxes so they are bootable. This
should be easy, as there is extra hardware available.
6. Configure one extra box as a database server.
7. Figure out the best mix of server services across
both boxes.
8. Setup mail server.
9. Setup mailing list server (leaning towards
Mailman).
10. Setup Apache httpd.
11. Setup Icecast streaming media server for
rebroadcast of CCCC radio show.
12. Setup Jabber server (IM server)
13. Collaborate with planning of projects. See
http://www.clickers.org/sigs/linux/ for list of CCCC
Linux SIG projects.

We especially need people who will just jump in and
make things happen. I will be at the CCCC office every
Saturday that I can spare. If you are unable to make
it on Saturdays, the office can be opened on other
days. Contact me to coordinate.

I suggest we use [EMAIL PROTECTED] as the
primary means of group communication. You can sign up
for this mailing list at:
groups.yahoo.com/group/cccclinuxsig/.

This is a great opportunity for anyone in the BR area
(or even beyond, once we get ssh working!) to actively
participate in Linux advocacy. There are a number of
people in the CCCC who are interested in Linux and
want to learn more.

The next CCCC Linux SIG meeting is on Monday, 4/15/02
at 6pm at the CCCC office. See the www.clickers.org
for the address and directions.

Thanks,
John Hebert
