There will be a meeting of the CCCC Linux SIG and the
BRLUG Newbies group on 5/20/02, Monday, at 6pm at the
CCCC office in Room 1. The CCCC office is located in
Dean Tower at 5700 Florida Blvd., Suite 424. See
http://www.clickers.org for more info.

We will be discussing the GUI (Graphics User
Interface) of Linux, XFree86, which is a free
implementation of the original UNIX GUI, X Window
(which, by the way, was being used prior to M$ ripping
off the name).

We will discuss how to configure XFree86 for your
graphics card, monitor, mouse and keyboard. We will
also discuss stupid user tricks such as running
applications on a remote computer but seeing the
display on a local computer. We will also break down
the complex taxonomy of window managers and desktop
environments, and explain why lots of choices is a
good thing.
