Yes, I have heard of BIOS going bad. It isn't as common as it used
to be. In fact, it is not nearly as bad as it used to be because you
can flash the Bios. Once upon a time you had to be able to burn
EPROM to change BIOS. These days much of it is actually dynamic. So,
to hear a BIOS flash could correct your problem is not a surprize.
It is actually high on the list of things to try after hardware. I
tend to suspect hardware first in this area. For my own systems, I
tend to search for BIOS upgrades more frequently than software
upgrades. And, since BIOS can be held in FLASH RAM, it can be more
susceptible to electrical problems than some hardware. It just
depends where the excess charge goes to do its voodoo. With BIOS, we
are talking millivolts, a touch of a finger can do damage at the
wrong time.

Please keep me posted. I am interested, not only in helping you, but
in figuring it out.
