For those who may be interested, my VPN testing shows MUCH improvement
on faster hardware.  The plot at
http://www.ligo-la.caltech.edu/~sroddy/NewvsOldHW.IPSec.png shows the
vast difference hardware can make for a VPN gateway.  `The old hardware
was roughly a PII 400 mhz with 128 megs of ram, and the new hardware was
PIV 2ghz machines with 512 megs of ram.  Also, intel network cards vs.
3com.  This is a manually keyed IPSec VPN using 3des encryption.
