I know that sometimes when I hook another computer up directly to the cable modem (like bringing the modem to another home), I have to release the IP lease and then hook-up the other machine and renew the IP. If i don't, then sometimes I have problems getting an IP from the DHCP server.
That might be a lot easier than unplugging the cable modem for 5 minutes every time you want to change machines. At least thats how it works here in Abbeville. Adam J.
