The CCCC Linux SIG will be having its August meeting on Monday, 8/19/02 at 6pm until around 8pm at the CCCC office on the corner of Sharp Lane and Red Oak Drive.
map: http://www.clickers.org/map.htm The topic of the meeting will be a discussion of an upcoming Linux SIG project to install Linux on recycled PCs for donation to worthy causes. This project idea came out of a discussion that Ed Walker (head of the computer repair SIG) and I had about what to do with a bunch of old PCs that the Clickers had in storage. Here is a rough agenda for the meeting: I. Overview and description of project II. Determining a realistic software installation II.a. What software would a new computer user want? II.b. Certain apps will require more memory, better graphics cards. II.c. Server type computers (web server, mail server, etc.) don't need fancy hardware (no GUI) but may need an administrator. III. Automating installation IV. Who do we contact to get recycled computers in the hands of users? V. Action Items If you would like to help out, please attend this meeting. If you don't think you know enough about Linux to help out, your experience as a newbie will be very helpful in determining the kinds of questions that new users will be asking, so you can help. Hope to see you there! John Hebert __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search Thousands of New Jobs http://www.hotjobs.com
