Jason, I too have been hit with troubleshooting dns issues on my network at some point in time.
What i have started using and have use for a long time is the site http://samspade.org which has tons of network tools like ping, traceroute, whois, etc... all from a webpage. Although their dns querry tool is down for now, it is still a great way to test your network from the outside in. I either do that, or ssh into a box that i have offsite and use dig or nslookup remotly. Adam J.
