Here's a conundrum that dates back to earlier this
year. I had some trouble booting my computer (i.e.,
it would not boot - and there was no video signal
out). After going back and forth with the motherboard
manufacturer (looking at this and checking that), the
motherboard was replaced.

Happy to have something I would expect to work, I
installed the new motherboard. However, I cannot get
the stinking thing to boot. I have tried swapping out
peripherals, memory and whatnot (I don't have a spare
CPU). I am getting a video signal out. It appears
that everything has been dectected correctly, from the
install RAM to my HD size. When the OS goes to load
everything stops, even when failsafe mode is selected.

I thought perhaps I had a bad boot sector or
something, and decided to reinstall. When I boot from
either the CD or floppy, I experience the sames as
when trying to boot from the HD. Things look like
they are ready to load linux and then just stop.

I am dealing with an AMD XP 2000+ system (Mandrake
8.0)with an Epox EP-8HKA+ MB, 1 GB RAM, 15 GB Western
Digital HD, ATI Raedon 7500 64 MB, generic CDROM
drive, generic 3.5" floppy, and generic NIC.

The system ran well before it crapped out last April.
Does anyone have any idea as to what I might try to
get this thing operational. Thanks.

-K
