Tough question without knowing for sure if it's something in the BIOS
itself (my guess would be that it is). I'd recommend contacting the
manufacturer of the computer. Chances are they'll be able to give you a
pretty good answer--you may have to play the "who's your boss" game
some--but it sounds like Compaq, and if it is, you should eventually get
a real answer.
