Hey guys, this is Jeremy Bertrand.
aka DukeUM or DukeDrago.
Thanks to those who I talked with on IRC.

OK on to the questions:
First: squid:
What is it?
Why would it fail to shut-down?
What's the significance of it failing to shut-down?

Secondary:
I have a nvidia gforce2 ti graphics card. I downloaded the latest linux
drivers in tar-ball, extracted, maked, installed the drivers.
When I restarted X it wouldn't work. It would hang and everything.
When I compiled either the glx or the kernel I received some errors but it
wouldn't say what the errors were.
It would look like it was going to startup but all it would show is a blue
screen or a red screen. The blue screen showed when I started Xserver as a
general user. I got the red screen when I started it as root.

my machine specs:
duron 700 mhz
10 gb partition for linux ( counting swap, boot, etc)
512mb pc133 sdram
linksys 10/100 nic
conexant 56k winmodem (I got to work with drivers from intel)
onboard sound ac-97 (I think)
64 mb ddr nvidia GForce2TI 200
cd-rom & cd-RW
linux distrib mandrake 9.0
other OSes installed win98 & XPpro
(there in seperate partions, but ironically same hd)

Please give me some help.
Thanks again,
Jeremy Bertrand
