Tomsrtbt boots up from floppy, but then installs the filesystem in 
ram.  After the boot process, you can even remove the floppy.  I guess you 
could mount a HD and write the contents of the filesystem to the HD.  You 
could then develop your own system kinda like Linux-from-scratch.
