Greets all, no I don't speek much, and there seems to be no lack of knowledge out here... but I just wanted to throw my hat out there too...
I've put together several installations of the DSL, and the Cable... I've got to agree the cable is outrageous, and thoroughly agree with the consumer groups. (ref. http://money.cnn.com/2003/01/08/news/companies/cable/index.htm) Unfortunately, the cable connections I've dealt with have been far more superior to DSL connections, short of actually bringing in a larger bandwidth (ie. T1 and above). So many factors come into play on both companies part, with regards to performance... signal strength, hardware, software and few good sacrifices in the yard. Knock on wood, I have had very few probs with my cable connection at home= , and wouldn't trade it for any DSL. Tech support is something to be desired on both sides (for that matter, m= ost large ISP's), the tiers of tech support read from a book, they just have to be proved wrong to get to the folks that know anything of value. (I state this only because I've had to deal with several tech supports fr= om many ISP's) Is cable worth the bucks?!?! Depends on what you need it for..... I have alot of bandwidth I suck up.... I just let the wife look at the bill... Denial is a good thing... Is DSL a better deal??? For the average end user, absolutely! It does wha= t it's suppose to, and is available in larger areas. Is cable a better product??? Yes... and be prepared to pay for it too... Sorry, don't mean to open a can flame... Just speaking from personal experience...
