Hi Adam,
I don't know if this is still important for you, but I saw your posting
regarding input/output errors when using HP Colorado 5GB with linux.
Nearly a year gone since then, but I saw there were no answers.
I had the same problem as you - and we both did all the right things.
But You posted the following lines:
<SNIP>
SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
Vendor: HP Model: COLORADO 5GB Rev: 2.01
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
st: Version 20020205, bufsize 32768, wrt 30720, max init. bufs 4, s/g segs
16
Attached scsi tape st0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
</SNIP>
The problem is: You have firmware revision 2.01 for your Colorado, as
seen in the lines above. I had the same problems with 2.05. But
upgrading to the most recent revision 2.08 (upgrade available from
www.hewlett-packard.com) solved all my problems: I can do status,
retension, read/write (tested with afio) and so on.
Hope that helps you - I felt the need to share my wisdom after searching
a whole day for the solution ;-)

Christoph
