Was it recent? I got the worst case of dejavu from it, as though I'd seen it many times. If I have not seen the exact text before I'm sure I've seen the same argument: that free software model can't produce code has been turned into free software can't produce a GUI or easy to use software or "business" software and on and on. The notion is absurd, of course, and it made me think someone had cracked the mailing list and next we would see BSD is dying. I must have seen a link to the article and actually read it. In any case it did not sound like a member of a LUG.
