Due to technical difficulties (the incompatibility between XPde and Xandros), the meeting topic has been changed to troubleshooting newbie's Linux installations and/or helping people install Linux.
If you are trying to install Linux on your PC and are having some problems, you can bring your PC to the meeting tomorrow night and we will try to help you fix your problem. We will also be installing Smoothwall (http://www.smoothwall.com) on some 486s for the CCCC Garage Sale as well. If you are planning to bring a PC, please arrive early and make sure you have all of your gear like power cords, keyboards, mice and monitor to run your PC. Also, if you want some help with installing Linux on a system that is already running Microsoft Windows, then you should prepare before coming by defragging your hard drive. That will make it easier to repartition your hard drive.. If you have Microsoft Windows installed on your computer and you own Partition Magic, then please repartition your hard drive yourself before coming to the meeting. You will need about 2GB of hard drive space to install Linux. If your hard drive does not have Microsoft Windows already installed on it, then you are ready to go. It will also be very helpful if you print out a copy of your system hardware info like Belarc Advisor does, so that we will know what kind of modem, network and video card you have. And please identify the technical specifications for your monitor by finding it at:. http://www.monitorworld.com. and printing out or writing down the specs.. Being prepared prior to the meeting will help us to help you more effectively.. One more thing, I'd like to ask more experienced Linux users to show up as well to help out with installation and trouble-shooting. -- John Hebert System Engineer http://www.it-group.com
