The Mammoth tapes by Exabyte are 20/40GB tapes.  They are considered 
reliable helical scan and fairly quick.  However the tapes are ~$50 
each.  The drives should be pretty cheap now also.  One prob - SCSI only 
- though you could probably find some network attached or iSCSI stuff.

Also you might look into the OnStream drives.  In my experience they are 
not as reliable (tape breakage - at least on the first production 
models) but they are cheap and they make an IDE version.  Also, I 
believe they are "certified" for use on Linux, so I would guess maybe on 
BSD too.


If I would suggest one thing - Go to LinuxTapeCert.org and do some 
research there.  It has been a while since I looked, but they had good 
info.  It will probably be good info for BSD also.
