It would have to be a peer-to-peer IM also, or you have the same problem as 
a TLS/SSL-encrypted communications channel for email. This a good tricky 
question. How do you locate your peer? If you have to contact a central 
site to find the recipient then that really is no different than the 
problem we are talking about with email.
