Hey now.... I am a Louisiana native. I never went to Caltech. My
paycheck just comes from there. Actually my paycheck comes from the
government. Caltech pays me after they take their cut. I see it as a
tax refund after the years that I had a "real job" in the private sector
and paid taxes.

Actually, it had a lot to do with politics. If I remember correctly one
of the folks in the Senate appropriations (or one of the science)
committee(s) was a Louisiana senator. Yes - the land was also cheap.
Also, with the placement of the Hanford site on the DOE land next to
where the fissile material was made for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki
bombs, our second site locations were limited due to the science of the
thing.

It will take me a lot more than six years to get my "4 year" degree
since I am going part time and paying for it out of pocket.

Actually - My girlfriend would have graduated from SLU, except that she
transfered to LSU her last semester. And yes, she liked SLU also. Hey
- if you get a chance, do me and here a favor and stop by the math
department and tell Dennis Merino (sp?) that Laura Schlecht (my
girlfriend) says hello. Tell him that I said hello also, thought he
probably won't remember me.
