Hey now.... I am a Louisiana native. I never went to Caltech. My paycheck just comes from there. Actually my paycheck comes from the government. Caltech pays me after they take their cut. I see it as a tax refund after the years that I had a "real job" in the private sector and paid taxes. > >After all, why would they want to put a LIGO in an uneducated place >like Livingston? If I remember correctly one of the folks in the Senate appropriations (or one of the science) committee(s) was a Louisiana senator. Yes - the land was also cheap. Also, with the placement of the Hanford site on the DOE land next to where the fissile material was made for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs, our second site locations were limited due to the science of the thing. > > >Well it's hard to argue when you're right. And yes, she liked SLU also. Hey - if you get a chance, do me and here a favor and stop by the math department and tell Dennis Merino (sp?) that Laura Schlecht (my girlfriend) says hello. Tell him that I said hello also, thought he probably won't remember me.
