Congrats, Cleve! I started playing with Gentoo almost a year ago. Lots of fun, learned a heck of a lot about Linux, kernel compilation, init scripts, etc.
I noticed the speed improvement myself compared to RedHat and Debian. Very responsive. However, I could never get VMware 3.2 running well under Gentoo 1.2, so I had to give it up for work purposes. Now that VMware 4.0 is out, I think I may try Gentoo again, so please share with us your progress concerning VMware. Have fun! Gentoo is now installed, Gnome is up and running and my nic is working and grabbing a dhcp assigned address. Wow..... Very fast too......I'm impressed. Now for the real fun.......tweaking here, adding there.......you know the deal!! ;) I'd like to thank everyone for being to patient and gracious and answering my questions. Will most probably be doing the vmware thing on my laptop and possibly on my home machine. I'll definitely look into partimage as well.........and see if I can dig up anything useful on how to build the Morphix modules. But for the next week I think I have a date with Gentoo!!! thanks again guys, Cleve _______________________________________________ General mailing list [email protected] http://brlug.net/mailman/listinfo/general_brlug.net
