One thing to keep in mind if you are going to do a demo of a cluster is to pick some software that lends itself to parallel tasks. Some software/calculations/etc work very well, while others do not. The beauty of openmosix is that any threaded application should work OK. I have done VERY little reading on openmosix (really just a blurb) and it appears that most things should work fine. however, some software will perform miserably because the threads depend on high speeds (the system bus, etc) to perform their functions. Also, in the sense of a beowulf (not necessarily openmosix), the software MSUT be written with special libraries to take advantage of the cluster. At LIGO the software has been written in house using the MPI libraries and is custom written for what we want to do.
Just keep this in mind when thinking about setting up clusters....
