First saw this on /. Mitch Kapor presented a keynote speech this morning at OSCON: "Linux's Journey to the Mainstream Desktop" (http://blogs.osafoundation.org/mitch/000272.html#000272). If you don't know who Mitch Kapor is, he created Lotus123 and headed up the Lotus Notes and Agenda projects, which motivated M$ to create Outlook as a counter. He's seen as a personal computer software pioneer and is influential among venture capitalists.
Much of his talk was based on the whitepaper "Desktop Linux Technology and Market Overview" (http://www.osafoundation.org/desktop-linux-overview.pdf) Check out Kapor's "Chandler" project while you're at it: http://blogs.osafoundation.org/mitch/000007.html. It's a Python based PIM and more. Booyah! I'm pumped. This free|open source software stuff is really taking off. ;) John Hebert
