for those always concern about security. Most KDE applications support ssh which is quite usefull. For instance, in web development I normally use the tab functionality with the web application, sftp on another to transfer images mostly, and local file tab. To open a document I use the regular open button but at the top of the open box I specify sftp://www.site.com and I can edit the file from the server securely.
It took me quite a while after KDE 3.1 came out to find out about this. Much like Shannon I had been doing lots of sftp from the command line.
