About one year ago I was asking around if there was an open source sar for FreeBSD. At the time I was using custom scripts to dump and analyze vmstat, iostat, uptime, and netstat information. The best response was that I should be using SNMP, which I already was for long-term trending information, but frankly sar gives you good data right at your terminal and can be a real life-saver. I recently found and began using bsdsar, which is available in ports. While bsdsar doesn't provide everything that sar under most SysV systems does, it is very nice. I really like the -s (top CPU users) and -S (top memory users) options. Check it out.
/usr/ports/sysutils/bsdsar Definitely recommended. --- Dustin Puryear <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Puryear Information Technology, LLC <http://www.puryear-it.com> Providing expertise in the management, integration, and security of Windows and UNIX systems, networks, and applications.
