Here's the usual process for replaced computers in my dept at UL: 1. If you don't like your machine, it is old, or it is too slow just buy another one. Buying a new computer means you get a couple of big boxes that have a monitor, keyboard, speakers, mouse, and that big box that goes on the floor. I "saved" two computers in my office just by cleaning them out. Oh, I think that's the biggest reason machines are replaced here. They are used and used and used until there's no more room on them to do much of anything. I could not believe how much junk I was getting rid of. Not many know what temporary and history files are; Xupiter and Kazza run ramped; and hardly anyone knows what in the world "system tools" are for. The next reason is someone just wants a new computer.
2. The old machine is sent to a closet or up in the attic. This is because the machine is still on inventory. The best that can happen is the machine is sent to the warehouse. The machines can't be sold, given away, taken home, sent anywhere else, or borrowed because it is still on inventory. But get this....by "computer" inventory means CPU. The monitor, keyboard, speakers, and mouse are not actually on inventory and not counted. BUT we can't touch the monitor, keyboard, speakers, and mouse because the computer is on inventory. Sonja
