To run a GUI app as root on Knoppix, open a shell do 'su - root', and then
run the app from the command line: 'gedit', etc. You can find the name of
the command in the menu by using the menu editor.

Knoppix is locked down to keep people from inadvertently destroying their
data. You have to explicitly do commands that could destroy data. I realize
it is a headache, but I think the tradeoff between power and newbie-proofing
is worth it in order to provide a bootable Linux CD that is fairly safe to
give to newbies.

I can login as root, actually when you do a
su - root

it automatically switches to root with no password
prompt.

But the problem is getting the GUI display to show
on the knoppix users display.
