I don't use Mandrake, but can understand the need to log in a GUI as root. Some of the expected tools, like adduser, are hard to find and use in Red Hat 8 and the GUI tools are good at configuring printers and stuff like that. Red Hat's GUI print configurator changes all the KDE and Gnome stuff at the same time with a few click and drool mouse movements. It's impressive and worthwhile enought to do it that way once and be done with it.
