Cap'n Buck, I use Open Office just about every day, though I have not yet tried out the database stuff. Here's a good place to start with trying out the database stuff:
http://dba.openoffice.org/ Note that Open Office does not include a database server like Microsoft Access, though Open Office supports lots of databases out there. Read the HOWTOs at the above URL.
